The Spinster’s Guide to Scandalous Behavior

My Rating:

It was ok

Author: Jennifer McQuiston
Publication date: November 24, 2015
Series: Seduction Diaries #2
Pages: 348
Genre: Historical, Romance
Synopsis:
Free-spirited Lucy Westmore isn’t yet a spinster, although she fully intends to be. Fortunately, an eccentric aunt has left her both a diary detailing the secrets to spinsterhood and a cottage in Cornwall. Unfortunately, an insufferable marquess is angling for her prize! Turning Lord Thomas Branston down flat should be easy. So why does this man who won’t take no for an answer make Lucy’s body and soul sigh yes?

Thomas knows the real value of Heathmore Cottage, and he has no intention of letting some silly Society miss get her hands on it. He’ll simply have to charm Lucy into selling. But the clever young woman he encounters, first in London, then en route to Cornwall, stands stubbornly on her own two (quite lovely) feet. And now, Thomas can think only of sweeping her off them.

This book may contain explicit intimate scenes, so if you are not 18+ then I probably wouldn’t recommend it for younger readers.

My Opinion

I have never read a book penned by Jennifer McQuiston, so I don’t know if it was me or not, but it took me a bit to get into this. It just didn’t grab my attention from the start, like others do, which is why it took me 7 day to finish it, when I usually finish a 300+ page book within 2-3 days. The part that was extremely slow for me, is “Lucy finally arriving at Heathmore Cottage”. I just felt that dragged on too much for me. However I didn’t hate it – I did like the hero and heroine’s witty banter and flirtatiousness – , but I would probably put it in the category of “one time read”. Given the fact that I didn’t enjoy this book as well as the others, I will continue to try the others in this series, because who knows, maybe this one just wasn’t my cup of tea, but perhaps the others might be.
