Author: Lisa Kleypas

Series: N/A
Pages: 375
Genre: Historical, Romance
Synopsis: She was unmarried, untouched and almost thirty, but novelist Amanda Briars wasn’t about to greet her next birthday without making love to a man. When he appeared at her door, she believed he was her gift to herself, hired for one night of passion. Unforgettably handsome, irresistibly virile, he tempted her in ways she never thought possible, but something stopped him from completely fulfilling her dream.

Jack Devlin’s determination to possess Amanda became greater when she discovered his true identity. But gently bred Amanda craved respectability more than she admitted, while Jack, the cast-off son of a nobleman and London’s most notorious businessman, refused to live by society’s rules. Yet when fate conspired for them to marry, their worlds collided with a passionate force neither had expected. . . but both soon craved.

This book may contain explicit intimate scenes, so if you are not 18+ then I probably wouldn’t recommend it for younger readers.

My Opinion

Amanda Briars is an accomplished writer in early Victorian era England, whom is only one week shy of turning 30. She has never known the passion of being with a man, so she hires a man for one night to rid her of her virginity. On the night of her birthday, an unknown man with black wavy hair and eyes so dark of a blue they are almost violet shows up on her doorstep. Regretting her decision, and thinking this man is the ‘hired’ male prostitute that she requested, she tries to turn him away, but Jack wont have any of it, making light and fun of the situation with his charming ways. Without divulging his full name and true propose for being there, Jack an Amanda have a passionate interlude, but he decides then and there that he won’t take her virginity.

Weeks later, Amanda attends a party, she stumbles upon Jack once again, finally learning of his full name and true nature – he’s a rake and publisher whom plays a bit dirty. She is yet appalled but yet still allured by him. He blackmails Amanda into letting him publish one of her earlier written works, if she doesn’t agree, he will tell of their passionate interlude. But he doesn’t just want Amanda’s novel, he wants her in a packaged deal. Not wanting word to get out about their one steamy night together, she agrees to his terms. From that point, Lisa takes you on a steamy passionate journey between Jack an Amanda that ends in a HEA.

I am sure this comes to no surprise that i loved this book. Lisa Kleypas can do no wrong in my eyes, all her books becomes a favorite of mine after I finish them an I treasure them for years to come. Jack was a bit of a rascal, I just loved him. He was so charming that he was deadly – with his twinkling mischievous eyes an grinning smile. I can see why Amanda fell for him, how could you not? He was just plum delicious in every way. Not only was he wickedly charming, he had a big passionate heart when it comes to people whom he truly cares about. This was just a great book from the beginning to the end, capturing your attention straight away, which I love when books do that. I hate when you have to read about 100 pages before you are like ‘Hey, this is gonna be so GOOD!’. As always, well done Lisa, you will always remain as one of my favorite Historical Romance authors.
